Like a true magician, John Zorn creates his very own jazz alchemy by forging a wondrous music amalgam from the earthiest elements. As the master of ceremonies, Zorn will be lining up four of his favourite magician's apprentices for Heaven and Earth Magick. Pianist Stephen Gosling, vibraphonist Sae Hashimoto, percussionist Ches Smith, and bassist Jorge Roeder will cook up an alchemical storm at will as they mix jazz, chamber music, and avant-rock. In addition to written movements for piano and vibraphone it will feature delightful blistering improvisations for bass and percussion. Both heaven and earth will shake in their foundations albeit momentarily.
