The composer as commentator, director, performer, and researcher. The work of the Philippine/Dutch composer meLê yamomo combines various disciplines. His work has a powerful topical value as yamomo responds to subjects that personally affect him such as colonialism. meLê yamomo is the fourth winner of the biannual prize for composers, The Open Ear. During this festive concert in celebration of the award, meLê yamomo presents the performance Eigenschwingungen – Forces of Overtones. He executes this reading/performance in collaboration with the cellist Eurico Ferreira Mathias. Together, they reflect on the relationship of fundamental tones and overtones, European music traditions and decolonial frequencies. They experiment with sounds and open our habits of perceptions to a new diversity of tones.

Eigenschwingungen – Forces of Overtones was first performed in November 2021, produced by Ballhaus Naunynstraße. It was part of the Decolonial Frequencies festival, curated in cooperation with meLê yamomo, funded by the State of Berlin, Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
